After two moves and a couple of kids, my doll stuff has gotten in disarray. Part of my projects this summer is to organize, organize, organize! I think I did some of the baby powder on her legs but I can't remember. I head swap is a great idea and I have a TON of donor bodies that would work! One is that the plastic used was toxic and head should be swapped to another body. Others say baby powder will reduce/remove the stickiness, but it's likely to return at some point.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07956627150885049725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137499729425715878.post-78962484931287930722016-11-26T15:49:42.715-08:002016-11-26T15:49:42.715-08:00I have a bunch of sticky leg syndrome barbies. Just got a box from my childhood of all my old barbies and bummed that some of my favorites are sticky legged. :(Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11355064960645955081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137499729425715878.post-58415036296363848732016-01-20T17:44:12.733-08:002016-01-20T17:44:12.733-08:00Hi Queenoffitness! I get the notifications to my inbox so its all good!
A way to remedy the sticky legs is to dust them with a talc powder. A rebody is probably the best bet. You would definitely want an old style body as the older clothes are too small in the waist and too big in the chest for the newer dolls :) Heads are definitely interchangeable! The best way to do it is hold the doll head over a pot of boiling water in the steam then slide something dull (like a butter knife) up into the head and gently pry the head off. If you break any of the parts in the neck the new head won't stay on. Good to practice with another Doll first. :) Its awesome to keep them for sentimental value. Some of the best memories of my childhood included Barbie! My Barbie Blog - Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09188493118291432758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137499729425715878.post-66419727259821782972016-01-20T09:01:09.453-08:002016-01-20T09:01:09.453-08:00I know this is an old post but I am so glad I foun...I know this is an old post but I am so glad I found your blog. I have been purging and reorganizing my basement and have come across 3 dolls suffering from the sticky legs syndrome. I have a California dreams Barbie (mid 1980s) a Ken doll (early 80s, wearing blue track pants, with a sticky body and face), and a Rose Petal Place doll with sticky legs. I tried washing them in dishwater last night which seemed to make the syndrome worse. Just wondering when you rebody a Barbie, will a current barbie doll body fit on a 1980s Barbie head? Should I look for another old Barbie at a yard sale? I don't want to run into the same problem again. I have other barbies that are not affected by this (maybe later 80s) and two Maxie dolls that don't have this problem either. If worse comes to worse I guess I can throw the doll away and keep the outfit but I hate to do that. I am only keeping them for sentimental value not as a collector's item. I just hate the waxy feeling on the skirt, I wanted to get rid of the sticky more so than the spots. I have Perfume Pretty Barbie, I wonder if she has a case of the sticky leg too. I hope not!

Lea - Thank you! I don't know what it is about the Superteen Skipper. The open mouth smile I think is so cute. Thanks for the idea on the curls. I will definitely do that. With my Dance Magic Barbie her hair has been brushed and put up in a ponytail, then brushed again, then up in a bun, then brushed.....ah, childhood. :) It will be fun to give it the curl it has originally. That Skipper is sometimes known as Superteen, I think - she doesn't tend to be very popular with collectors, but I have one who needs a re-root and she's kind of grown on me.

As Andrea says, there's no known cure for the white leg spots :( I have a Skipper and a Midge from the late eighties in a similar state. I was advised to use baby powder on their legs to stop the stickiness, but I'd agree that the best solution would be a rebody ...

Your Dacing Barbie with the curls - sorry, not sure about the dress, maybe if you display her it'll just drop in time? Curls - I find the best way to to it is to brush through curl by curl (time consuming, I know). After brushing each curl, twirl the hair up into a "rope", curl the rope round your finger then spritz with a little water. Ease it off your finger gently and it will unwrap slowly and find the curl it had in the box again (hopefully). Only works with loose curls or waves like this doll's, though. If the ropes don't unwrap by themselves, you can give them a helping hand the next day when it's dry.

Looking forward to your next deboxing post - so exciting!! :) Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137499729425715878.post-89776959271880141642014-05-15T09:44:40.626-07:002014-05-15T09:44:40.626-07:00Glad the dye experiment victim survied. Unfortunately there is no cure for these spots, so your best bet will be finding another beachline body that matches in color to replace the body. Other dolls known suffering from sticky-spots legs are: Perfume Pretty Whitney, Jewel Secrets Skipper and a few more. It is probaly caused by the vinyl composition reacting to little ventilation in the box or under a pantyhose.

I remember reading somewhere that xou can treat sticky lefs without spots by sitting the doll in bowl with very hot water and dishwashing soap for a while, dry her and powder her legs. This does not work for the spotty legs, infortunately the spots are permanent.

Dance Magic Barbie is gorgeous. Love her dress.Andreanoreply@blogger.com
