Back from Vacation and $8 of Goodness

Hello all!

I'm finally back from vacation. I had a lovey time in Maui! The weather was perfect and it was the best time swimming and snorkeling and boogie boarding and body surfing and.....well, just everything!

Here is a picture from our trip. Me and my hubby by the palm tree.

But now I'm back and ready with more Barbie awesomeness!

So I went to the thrift store and got another load of Barbies!

I wasn't very impressed with the service at the store this time around. There was a new guy and girl there, not the usual eclectic, new age, fun girls that are there. But I will tell you that I got a whopping 38 dolls! When I went up to the counter with my stash, this is the conversation that played out.

Me: I know this looks a little strange but I love dolls! (laugh)
Girl: (no laugh, no smile) Well...some of these dolls have price tags on them.
Me: Well, they are usually $1 per pound, that's usually what all the toys are.
Girl: (starts taking dolls out of the bag) well, there are prices on some of them because they are collector.
Guy: (Sitting back behind the counter on a laptop) I checked all those dolls.
Girl: You checked ALL of these?
Guy: Yeah, all of them are not real collectible. They all say 1967 or so on the back which is the year of the mold.
Me: You know your dolls!
Guy: (smiles)
Girl: Ok, we'll do it by the pound.

Note that the last time I got dolls there were the same tags on them. Most read $2. They are not the tags the store uses because theirs say "ReGroup" on them. I'm thinking that these were at a yard sale or other store and didn't sell so they donated them. Every time I have got dolls I have paid $1 per pound. Even when I bought 3 pieces of doll clothing (which weigh nothing) I paid $1 because the money goes to Hospice so that is a good cause.

I'm willing to pay for dolls what they are worth. I will not rip someone off but if I can get a bargain, I do it. Especially for dolls with the old body style. But when I have paid $1 per pound in the year I have been going to that store and they are in that section, I expect to pay what they are signed at. If they wanted to go by the tag price (again, that was not their stores tags) then they should have moved them.

I like the other girls better. They actually talk to you and laugh with you and have fun. Also note that I have never been there on a Thursday. I'll continue to go on Friday when the other staff works.

Okay, ready for the magnificent 38? Some are very unique so I'll need some ID's! (Andrea!)

First we have another sparkle haired doll exactly like the one I got before. I think this one's hair is a little longer. I may put her in the "Barbie Club" crop Tee and shorts set after I give her a bath. The next has black painted on leggings and a swimsuit. However, it does not fit real well on Barbie. Her chest is too big. Maybe a Skipper swimsuit? I'm sure it would fit my Jazzie doll! The next is Glitter Beach Barbie. I have her already and put her in a nice Hawaiian ensemble. I think I will use this one because the other one has some terrible black spots on her legs that I can't seem to remove. Probably from the spray glitter she came with. The next is a generic doll.

Glitter hair Barbie looks like this one from last time.

Here is my Glitter Beach Barbie!

Next we have some fully anatomical dolls! The one on the left only has the arms. The two in the middle have both moving elbows and knees and flat feet. They are also wearing clothes that are way too big. The one on the right is so pretty. She has this cute lingerie with pink bow earrings. So cute.

This doll has golden hair but is not a Barbie. I don't know what she is! But tell me, is this the jumpsuit from Great Shapes Barbie?

She has faded looking eyes. Maybe she goes to sleep when you rub icy water on them? Kind of like Bedtime Barbie? Sorry for the blurry picture but her irises have stars in them.

Next we have a little bit of a mix. We have a non-Barbie with a split waist. A Barbie, a darker skinned Teresa with a beaded necklace and another non-Barbie wearing some kind of dress?

This "dress" reminds me of Dance Magic Barbie where when you take off her skirt, her dress becomes a ballet outfit. I don't think this is complete! Also, her head fell off and was pushed on so a high-necked outfit may be ideal for her.

This is the one from the left. She has glass eyes. Very pretty.

Now we have some interesting ones. The one on the left has an interesting lower section. It's not like "panties" like some of the older dolls. It's more round? I guess? The next is a non-Barbie wearing a strange dress, an older Barbie and a newer Barbie.

Here is a close up of the dress. I don't think it's genuine Barbie. It fits the waist fine but the halter top is way too big.

Our next group has the new body types. I'm not sure what the one on the left is. A Disney maybe? The one on the right has a pretty pink streak in her hair!

Now we have body types both new and old. The one on the right has anatomical knees but I had a hard time sitting her up as they are very loose. But take a look at the second doll.

This waist is soft and squishy. I have NO idea who she is!

So now we have more old and new bodied beauties! Left has anatomical arms. Then a new body, then a generic old body, then a dark skinned new body. Who is she?

Now we have a new body, another squishy waist doll, an old body and a beautiful AA doll. She is wearing a bead necklace and has somewhat of a do-rag attached to her hair. Any one know who she is?

This doll is a little odd. She must be a runner or something because when her legs move, her arms swing back! She's cute though!

Now the last group. First a non-Barbie wearing a peasant dress (it seems to fit okay, not perfect though.) A Snow White wearing a Cinderella dress that doesn't fully close in the back. A new bodied Barbie with pink legs. Maybe a ballerina? Then the last doll, a generic old body.

I lied. I do have a few more. A couple of McDonalds dolls and a little Kelly!

I also got an extra leg. It's plastic, not vinyl but it will do when I need another leg for something. I also had to pass up a couple of dolls. I passed by a Twilight Edward doll. He had one entire foot chewed off and the other foot was 3/4 of the way chewed off. I might have picked him up in the mix had his feet been intact but he is a BIG doll! I don't think Ken's clothes will fit! I also passed up a beautiful good condition Ariel doll. I loved the red hair but her hips were very big. Again, no clothes would have fit them. There was a small and skinny Tinkerbell doll and then a few Bratz (with no feet though!) All in all, I did well with this run!

I hope you all get a chance to read this and help me with some identification. I am so bad at finding out what dolls are so I'm glad I have readers like you to help!

Until next time!

Hi Theresa. The pink swimsuit that's a bit small for your Barbie is from a Colour Splash Skipper (which are quite collectable, so its a good find). Your dark-skinned doll with the headscarf is a Cali GIrl Lea! I love these dolls (I collect the Lea sculpt and I also have a small collection of Cali Girls, so they're a double hitter for me). She is also quite collectable - and very beautiful! Congratulations on your finds

Thank you! I checked out your post on your Cali Girl Lea. :) She doesn't look much like the other Lea's so I wasn't sure if she was one or not! I'll have to find some nice summer clothes that match her head scarf.

And yay! Some real Skipper Clothes! I hope to find some more Skippers someday (the old style, not the new ones with brown hair.) I only have two. Maybe someday. :)

Thanks so much for the help with the ID! I so appreciate it! :D

I'm glad you had a great vacation. I was a little MIA myself, life gets in the way sometimes.

Wow, you had quite a haul.

Pic 1:

The Barbie with the black Legs is 1996 Ocean Friends Barbie. Here is the commercial for her on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcVH_PdDh6c

I'm lost on the doll next to Glitter Beach Barbie, but with the straight PTR-arms (PTR = palm to rear) she is most likely a Fashion Play or another low priced Barbie.

Pic 2:

The first one looks like 1992 Earring Magic Barbie:

Next comes 1994 Hot Skating Barbie:

Next is 1995 Gymnast Barbie:

Last is 1991 Pretty Surprise Barbie:

You also got her original dress with this haul, strike.

Pic 3:

The doll is a Disney Sleeping Beauty. The Jumpsuit looks like Great Shape Barbie's. Depends on the fabric: yes if it is kind of slippery, no if it is the kind of fleecy stretch that easily pulls threads, then it is from 1989 Western Fun Barbie.

Pic 4:

The first looks like one of these dolls:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-Special-Holiday-Collection-Fashion-Doll-MIB-/140730991120

Second doll looks like Fashion Play or Chic Barbie, unfortunately most of these are almost twins, so a close up face shot would be helpful here. The eye make-up says 90's doll for me.

Teresa with black hair must be the 1994 Native American Barbie, great find:
http://www.abeautifullifephotography.com/Todd/Barbie_Collection/Images/Native-American_BB_3rd-Ed_1994_02_Lrg.jpg

Number 4 doesn't ring a bell with me, but her eye paint says 80's. And she is wearing 1991 Pretty Surprise Barbies original dress.

I guess I put a break in here, before I loose all the text again.

The first is also a 1995 Gymnast Barbie

The second and third doll are clones, sorry I can't help with names. But the dress screamed Mattel at me, so I dug into my old booklets. It is Mattel: 1979 Barbie Best Buy Fashions # 1353.

Modern Barbie could be the Barbie from the 2011 Sisters Go Fishing giftset:

Pic 6:

Number one is a Disney Belle from the movie Beauty and the Beast. No Idea which one though, sorry, but she is really cute.

Next is 2002 Style Boulevard Barbie # B0291.

The one with the pinkish hair must be some beach doll, because of her big feet. She is not a Merliah doll though. Naybe someone did a little head swapping. The pink looks like self dyed with a marker.

Pic 6:

Number on is 2004 Santas Helper Barbie:
http://www.fashion-doll-guide.com/image-files/2004-santas-helper.jpg

Next is 2000 Jewel Girl Barbie - she was the first doll with the ever-flex waist. I hope you can fix her up, she is such a beautiful doll.

Next one is 1999 Riviera Barbie:
http://figure-archive.net/photos/v039/_00135377.jpg

The last one is the Barbie from the 2008 Barbie & Walking Tawny and Baby giftset:

Pic 7:

Number one is 2000 Bedtime Barbie & Baby Krissy:

Next is 2002 Boutique Barbie:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3391/3290250050_dfe1e822dc_z.jpg?zz=1

No idea on the third one. Is it the pic, or does her body not match her face skin color?

Last one is 2008 Beach Party Teresa:

Another break before text escapes

Number one is a Fashion Fever Barbie, but I can't tell for sure which one.

The second one is Jewel Girl Barbie for sure:
http://home.clara.net/sue/Graphics/m11.jpg

then the other girl with the flex-waist must be Chair Flair Barbie: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Barbie-Chair-Flair-Barbie-New-in-box-/12/!BNp1+VQBmk~$%28KGrHgoH-CgEjlLl1Ej9BJqvPR0!gQ~~_12.JPG

THe third one is 1996 Splash 'n Color Barbie:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5256/5491417573_1e183aff45_z.jpg

barbiebeauties was spot on already spot on Number four. I always grab any Leas I can find, they are so beautiful. I wish Mattel would bring them back into the playline as a regular character.

Pic 9:

I left her behind at the fleamarket last weekend, because I didn't like her fists. She is 2010 I Can Be Life Guard Barbie. She is not a walker. She came with a life guard chair and if you pushed a button, she catapulted from the chair to dive into the waves for rescue.

Pic 10:

The next one is 1998 Disney Snow White Holiday Princess:
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Disneys-Snow-White-Holiday-Princess-Doll-Disney-Holiday-Collection-New-/00/s/MTAyM1g2NDU=/$%28KGrHqJ,!l!FBKg%28MdtvBQdjQ1NNJw~~60_57.JPG

I hope you can find her dress, it is so beautiful.

Next one is 2011 I can Be Doctor Barbie:
http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/02/70/84/92/0002708492699_500X500.jpg

Last one is a Fashion Play or Chic doll.

Quite a catch, congrats.

Good to have you back Andrea! Yes, life does tend to do that sometimes. I know that all too well. :)

As always, thanks for the help! You are such a superstar!

I just want to ask though, is the blog causing comments to delete? If so then I'll have to look into it because that is so not cool!

I remember seeing Ocean Friends Barbie in the store when I was younger. Maybe I can find a cool 80's outfit that will go with her black legs.

I have the gymnast Barbie! She was one of the last ones I received when I was a kid. She is so cute and I love the little ribbon braided into her hair.

The jumpsuit is the slippery fabric so it must be from Great Shapes Barbie. It should look cute with the jacket I have from Western Stampin' Barbie. I'll have to scrounge for some cowboy boots!

Native American Barbie! I'll have to look for her outfit online. I must have it now that I have a unique doll!

That 1979 fashion, so strange to find that in the mix! I'll have to play with it and see if I can get the top to look like the picture.

Good catch on the gal with the pink hair. It was colored with a marker because I found some pink residue next to the hairline. Merliah has much longer hair (and I have her too, wearing a Surf City Barbie swimsuit which shows off the fun design on her stomach!)

You know, I never heard of the ever-flex waist. Seems like a unique idea but I was startled when I grabbed it not knowing it was squishy!

I am really surprised that Pretty Surprises Barbie's earrings are still intact. The bows are so cute. I just hope that I can clean up the dress. I might soak it in Oxy Clean to see if it does anything.

The third doll on pic 7, I think that's the photo. Her face and skin color are the same.

With Splash and Color Barbie, her hair did not change color in warm water. Hmm. I'll have to try again. I'd love to fix her up, I love the sparkle hair.

Okay, I can be Lifeguard is a little strange! The fists do not match well with swimming. Who swims with fists? No one. She looks odd sitting on her chair with fists. I might dress her up and change her into a runner because that would be a better sport for her than lifeguard. :)

Snow Whites dress is so gorgeous! I love the fur! I hope to get it someday.

I can be Doctor Barbie is cute. I love the pink legs, lol.

Thanks for the compliment, you make me blush.

I don't know if it is the blog, or just me being clumsy sometimes. In any case if I'm writing a long text I tend to save inbetween, just in case there might be a character limitation.

Oh and if you considered those people in your thrift store strange, you should see the ones at my local thrift. They give me an odd look everytime I look for dolls. Not that they have many or any in good condition anyhow.

Ocean Friend Barbies actually are supposed to be color change legs depending on cold and warm water. Sometimes the color-change magic just stops working fo some reason.

That slippery fabric, I think it is called Nylon, is a sure clue for Mattel fashions from the late 70's.

Lifeguard Barbie would look great in a skiing outfit but the the sticks need to be attached with double sided tape.

The squishy waists obviously were not that popular, I can only remember two lines using it: Jewel Girl and Chair Flair. There are two more lines in which the whole body was from that squishy material: Dance & Flex and Cheerleader. Those dolls are very poseable.

Forestminuet said...

Yeah, I would think the squishy waist would not be popular. If they held the pose when you twisted them or such to give them different poses I think that might be better. Like the cheerleader.

Oh, a skiing outfit for the lifeguard doll! That would be cute. I have a small book of outfits for Barbie from the past. There is one from the mid 70's that is so cute. Fur hood, Yellow jacket, just so cute.

I'll have to see if mine have color change legs! Fun!

The barbie with the squishy midsection is jewel girl barbie.:)

Thanks Michelle! Funny, I actually picked up a Jewel Girl a while ago (fully intact). I then remembered that I had purchased these a while ago and I'm like "THAT'S what they are!" Thanks so much and good to see you stopped by!
