Barbie Shelf Woes and Collection Showcase

So last week I walked in and found a rather unusual sight.

My Barbie shelf is in my office and sits about about a foot from the door jamb. It's really hard to run into it actually because it's not that deep and doesn't stick out in the room too much. But I'm telling you. There is NO way all this could have happened without someone running into it. I'm thinking either the hubby or I were sleepwalking (which I have been known to do in the past) or an earthquake.

At the edge of the shelf on the very end I have Splash n' Color Kira. Next to her (moving toward the inside of the shelf) is my Really Rosy Kayla. The only thing I can think of is that Kayla fell over knocking down Kira then tumbling to the bottom below where I have Stacy, and my Easter Bunny Fun Barbie. Stacy must have been knocked off balance at the very end. I have had the Kayla in the same spot for over 2 years. Wonder why she just NOW decided to fall over!

Leaning Tower of Barbies. This however is nothing new but for some reason ALL of them seemed to be tipped over rather than just one or two. I have no idea how to get them to keep upright. They don't have shoes on, you'd think their vinyl feet would be just "sticky" enough to keep them planted. Guess not!

Then when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I look up to the top shelf to see Superstar Ken has taken a tumble backwards. Good thing Barbie was holding onto him!

Luckily all Barbies came away without a scratch. What a sight though! See what I mean? Someone must have bumped into it in the night (or an earthquake.)

All are back in their spots and upright now.

And I did have to share this display as well. To the left of the shelf is a TV stand where I have the most beautiful Fashion Photo PJ with my collection of vintage Barbie Hallmark ornaments. LOVE.

The little white box to PJ's left is a Barbie and Ken wedding day ornament set. I have the single blonde ponytail doll ornament in front and in the box is a beautiful brunette ponytail ornament along with Ken.

So readers, show me your awesome dolly displays! I would love to see them. Mine is by no means the best or most organized that's for sure. But it was the only shelf I had at the time so I will make do. But when I build my new house I will have an entire office dedicated to my awesome collection! Can't wait! The 2005 Beach Fun Barbie!

Not really a whole lot to this doll. I got her about the time I started this blog. She was in nice condition so I kept her on my shelf. The perfect braid in her hair and the still "on" toenail polish tells me she was not played with a whole lot.

And loving the cute little tankini!

This doll does not come with a whole lot of accessories. A pair of sunglasses, a lace cover-up and a bottle of suntan lotion (all pieces I do not have.)

In addition to Barbie there were Summer, Lea, and Christie.

I am ashamed to say that I have NOT been working on the Benny doll project. I guess i'm feeling a little uninspired right now! But I have been working on knitting a scarf that I started 9 years ago. (Yeah, I know...... I just get inspired NOW to finish it??) So needless to say if I continue to be inspired to knit I will have it done just in time to look at it for a few months until winter rolls around again. ha!

Barbie Vay-Cay!

It's vacation time! (Boy, do I need it!) We are on our way to the beautiful island of Hawaii where we will spend time swimming with turtles, dolphins (for real!) and visiting the awesome volcanoes and waterfalls.

But before I leave, the Barbie's had a mini-vacation of their own! They too visited "Hawaii" and enjoyed their stay. There are some great pictures of their trip!

Ready For Summer?

Is anyone else ready for summer? It's been getting warmer here, the snow is melted (well, in the places the sun hits) and the street sweepers have been out in full force picking up the dirty cinder rocks left by the trucks who laid them down to make the roads safer when they were icy.

Like me, this Barbie is also ready for summer.

This is Sun Lovin' Malibu Barbie from 1979. Since 1979 is before my time, it's a real treat to get one from this decade. All of mine from my childhood are from the late 80's to the 90's. My dad has a booth in a local antique store for some sales and another booth client brought this in to sell. So he picked it up for me. Thanks Dad! :)

And, as it mentions on her box, she's had a little TOO much summer :)

Because her box is in less than stellar condition, I took this as a great opportunity to get some "deboxed but not deboxed" photos.

Her hair is still held in by plastic and her sunglasses are still there too. The mirrored look has turned cloudy over the years but maybe it can be cleaned up.

But all in all this doll is in great condition. As shown in this pic and the one with the tan lines, she is a little dusty and could use a refresh.

And I love her!

The Help!

First is the mirrored sunglasses. The fact that they were "foggy" is really odd to me. Do you think its something that could come off with water and a rag? I'd be devastated if I ruined her mirrored sunglasses. Meaning, could the rag wipe off the "mirror" effect?

And help me out readers. Is this one of the more sought-after Malibu dolls? I know there were a few "Malibu" Barbies but can't remember which is which.

And one last question. The picture on the box shows a "B" symbol on the left leg of her swimsuit. My doll does not have that. Was that a feature only on the picture? Or did mine fall off somewhere through the years?

Palm Beach Teresa - is she rare?

A trip to Goodwill yesterday landed me this lovely Teresa doll. She has painted on clothes which didn't take me long to locate her.

This is Palm Beach Teresa from 2001 and the catch-phrase for these dolls are "always dressed."  There were a lot of these dolls. The whole gang is here!

I was searching through the toys (around a little boy who was dragging out everything from the shelves, gotta love the lack of parenting!) and I saw a hand sticking out. I knew it was from a Barbie doll. I was even more excited when I saw that it was a Teresa doll.

(FYI - I love Teresa dolls because we share the same name, spelled the same way, with no H)

She had no price and I was a little taken back when the clerk told me she was $1.99. Her left arm is loose and she squeaks at the leg joints. I couldn't bear to put her back so I paid it and went on my way.

She needed me

I wasn't too keen on the choice of attire and was thinking about dressing her but I think if I wash her it will brighten up her dull looking painted-on swimwear. Plus there is something about dressing a Barbie doll in non-original clothing. It's just my thing, I love the original clothes if I have them.

Doesn't look too dull in the pic but trust me on this one!

The Help! I've been checking completed auctions on Ebay and there is not an abundance of these dolls but sellers have them listed as "rare" and have them priced very high. A couple of them have sold recently, one deboxed went for $7.00 and another NRFB for $3.99. Some NRFB are priced around $35.00! So help me, is she really as rare as sellers are making her out to be? If she indeed is, then $1.99 isn't such a bad price after all. ;)
