The 25 Days of Barbie!

Well here it is. Today is the first day of my new blog mini-series titled "The 25 Days of Barbie." Here I will showcase my collection of holiday Barbie dolls that I have collected through the years. I had almost exactly 25 of them, one every day until Christmas.

So, let's start this journey!

Day 1: White Winter Wonderland - 1989 Happy Holidays Barbie

IMG_8133

I was lucky to pick up this doll at a garage sale a few years ago. From what I can tell, she is very rare and hard to find. I am not pleased with the condition of the box. It's heavily yellowed and cracked to the right of the snowflake on the box (the pictures don't show that but trust me, it's there!) I figured at $20 she was too good to pass up.

If you are unfamiliar with the boxes of the Happy Holidays Barbies, they have plastic tops and bottoms and the cardboard is what keeps it together. It's usually held on with double sided tape. If your dolls are in a hot and/or humid area, that tape is going to deteriorate really quickly. She had been in a storage unit. Most of them are not temperature controlled which I'm sure contributed to the tape giving out. As I picked her up by the top this summer, the bottom fell out. I never glued it back on. :) So I get to show her to you 'deboxed' but not 'deboxed' photos!

Her hair and dress are PERFECT and white as new fallen snow. Her hair is just gorgeous and she does not have any odor or discolorations anywhere.

IMG_8135

I am so in love with her! I love the all white with the fir. So very 80's. So very holiday! And she comes with her very own Christmas ornament.

She has a little snowflake in her hair that matches her jewelry.

IMG_8134

If you are new to my blog, you will know that the 80's and 90's are my favorite generation of dolls because those are the ones that I grew up with. Her face is so sweet and pretty.

And because the bottom of the box fell out, I got to see that there is a nice picture inside for framing.

IMG_8136

Look at that hair and dress. How do they get the hair to do that! I'm convinced that they have never seen "deboxed" hair. Never as floofy and curly as that! But a very beautiful dress when it's all shaped!

The box describes her as "she sparkles like starlight on a holiday night!"

IMG_8137

She does. Really. :)

See you tomorrow!

Only 3 days!

Hey all. Only three more days till my mini-series starts! Saturday December 1st is the day. I do hope you'll join me for this fun and exciting time featuring a different doll every day. Stay tuned!

Absolutely NO thrift store goodies this week! I think I've pretty much cleaned them out of Barbie goods. I'll have to check other stores to see if I can get anything good.

So today I'll post a couple pics of a doll that I remembered I had stored at my mom's house. She is not a Barbie but a Sandi doll. I kept her in this nice case and the box reads "Magic Moments."

IMG_8125

As some of you know, I am a sucker for dolls with long hair. Love them and the longer the hair the better! I'm not sure what is up with her left earring. It seems to be missing the teardrop. I'll have to check it out and make sure it's not in the box somewhere. She was stored for a long time. But now she is home with me and out of the stuffy attic. She is much happier, can you tell? ;)

IMG_8126

I love her dress though. The black and sparkle do make for a Magic Moment.

That's all for today. See you all Saturday!

Playtime!

Did everyone have a great thanksgiving? I sure did! Just got all our Christmas lights up today, it's just around the corner!

One of the fun things about playing with Barbie as a child is the amazing world of make-believe. Barbie can wear anything, do anything, and have anything. She can be a mermaid, princess, rocker, movie star, dancer, or singer. Some of the more recent include the president, fashion designer, veternarian, and doctor. One of my favourite make-believe scenarios was to have a huge Barbie slumber party! So naturally this playset became my most loved and played with Barbie accessory.

The Fashion Doll Bedroom Case was the storage for both my Margie and Sandi dolls and they were always dressed in PJ's. (unless it was time for them to go on a date with Ken or out to the ball!) It is similar to a girl's college dorm bedroom and has TONS of stuff for Barbie!

IMG_8010
Look at all this goodness!
Let's check out what Barbie can do in her new bedroom. First she has a large assortment of beauty products such as bath oil, hair spray, shampoo, suntan lotion and a hairbrush.

IMG_8012

She also has some powder and of course, a phone and mini TV.

IMG_8013

And another hairbrush and some tissues.

IMG_8014

Here are some of the other things that Barbie can do in her super stellar bedroom. We have some accessories such as necklaces, purses, and belts. A curling iron for the perfect hairstyle, a skateboard, ping pong paddles, hand weights, perfume, visors, shoes, and a little white thing on the left edge of the bed.

IMG_8015

It's Barbie's Kitty Cat!

IMG_8016

We have even MORE things to do! A walkman, binoculars, hairbands, sunglasses, watches, a hair dryer, mirrors, brushes and combs, hair picks, a purse, camera, frisbee, curlers, and more shoes.

IMG_8017

Here to enjoy the bedroom is the lovely Hannah Montana Secret Star Sleep Over doll and the awesome doll wearing the Bedtime Barbie fashion. They are enjoying their new room.

IMG_8018

They had to try out the accessories. For the Bedtime Barbie, the star hair picks.

IMG_8021

And for Hannah, the hair band.

IMG_8022

And a bedroom wouldn't be a bedroom if it didn't have a closet FULL of clothes!

IMG_8023

There is just one more thing that Barbie can do in her new bedroom. Go snorkeling! Here is the lovely Princess Merliah from Barbie in A Mermaid's Tale to demonstrate.

IMG_8024

She is ready for the water.

IMG_8025

I chose her because the flippers stay on better with those dolls that have the huge beach feet!

IMG_8026

So there is Barbie's super fabulous bedroom, perfect for playtime and make-believe!

Also, my mom bought me a doll! She has always got me the Halloween Barbies so here is the one from this year. The Halloween Haunt Doll.

IMG_8029

I love her spider web dress and pink streaked hair. One thing that bugged me is that they gave her a cardboard broom. If she's a witch she needs an authentic broom. But that's just me. ;)

IMG_8032

But I still love her. Of all the holiday dolls, the Halloween dolls come a close second to the Christmas dolls.

So there is the fun post for today! I love playtime, don't you? Bring back memories? I hope so!

UP AND COMING TO THE BARBIE BLOG:

Starting December 1st, I am going to put together a mini-series. A new post and a new doll every day! It's going to be so fun, I can't wait! Just 6 more days till the first one. I hope I'll see you back.

Another Gown for Barbie

Another gown for Barbie? Yes please! :)

Remember the gowns from the last post?

Well, I rummaged through my box of dolls and found the only one I had with an older body type.
Here she is. I posted her up long ago, My First Barbie from the early 80's.

Well, the outfit was kind of frumpy and I have the actual Maskerade Party Halloween Barbie so I really don't want to duplicate outfits. Andrea mentioned that she couldn't wait to see the hot pink dress on a doll, here it is!

Beautiful no? For some reason, the bust seems to be a little big even on an older body Barbie. I fastened it as tight as it would go and it looks okay. I may have to find a way to make it even more tight.

I found some awesome silver opened toe heels but unfortunately I only had ONE! I hate that. :( So these pearlescent white pumps will have to do for now.

IMG_7997

Well, no silver heels but I did have a silver purse!

IMG_7999

The hairbow will be adjusted to the side later. The elastic strap broke off so I'll have to reattach it.

I love it, what do you all think?

And I may change the head. I have a Gift Giving Barbie head which has much prettier eyes and hair than this one. I'm not sure what Mattel was thinking with the features of this doll! (but the dress is pretty) :)

IMG_7995

Okay, now for thrift store goodies. No dolls this week, boo!

First off I found an adorable sparkly feather boa for my Ice Princess Figure Skater.

IMG_8002

A VERY distressed piece of clothing. Maybe a jumper?

IMG_8003

Finally, this Genuine Barbie dress.

IMG_8004

I have a great idea for a post which will be coming either Sunday or Monday. Until then, have a wonderful, happy, and safe Thanksgiving! (And watch lots of Football :)

The Set is Complete

I'm back. Did you miss me? Just kidding. :)

So you might be asking "what set is complete?" Remember in previous posts that I had a set of beautiful gowns that I received as a Christmas present from my parents when I was a child. These were purchased at Costco and are not Genuine Barbie fashions. But they are so pretty and I just had to put them on dolls.

First was my 2004 Birthday Wishes Barbie in teal and green

Next was Teresa from Barbie of Swan Lake wearing the pink ballet dress

Third was the 1997 Happy Holidays Barbie wearing gold and black

Fourth was my Clueless Cher doll wearing the wedding gown

There were just two left. I'd been waiting for some older body type dolls to put the dresses on. I finally got some and here they are!

A generic 80's/90's doll wearing purple and gold

All of the dresses come with some kind of headpiece. I didn't want to mess up the hair of my Birthday Wishes Barbie so I didn't put it on her and Teresa's hair is so gorgeous that I couldn't bear to put it up to get the headpiece on. But this one looks stunning! So British I think. They always wear beautiful hats.

Finally Odette of Barbie of Swan Lake finishes out the set in black and pink.

Perfect! And the bow is cute too.

Her hair is better. This is one of the dolls whose hair was very tangled and ratty. I tried to smooth it out as best as I could when I washed it and it looks okay. But not perfect.

Anyway, I'm glad the set is all represented and makes a great addition to the top of my Barbie shelf.

However, my mom bought me these dresses at a yard sale.

I'm thinking that this might be another set like the ones I have! Each has a headpiece and accessories and a wedding gown in the mix. The wedding dress is to die for. Mine is an off-white with pearls and lace. This is a true white with glitter, shimmer and pearls.

Hmm, another set might be in the works!

Ready for thrift store goodies?

Barbie!

Okay Andrea, you will have to help me with this one. The halter top does not fit obviously. I just wanted to put it on her so I didn't have to hold onto it at the store. I also put the little daisy shorts on her too.

She has awesome two toned blond hair.

She is different though as she has a lever on her back.

And the string on her hand pulls out. When you pull down the lever, the cord is sucked back in.

Absolutely NO clue who she is! So help is definitely needed with this one. And maybe the shirt too. She has an older body type so I'm not sure if it would fit on a newer doll. I haven't tried yet.

And last, this precious little Kelly that I missed last week.

A cute little ballerina that I'm guessing goes into some kind of music or jewerly box.

She's so cute! Once I get the hair fixed she will be a perfect little addition.

That's it for this week. I'm going to try to be more dilligent in posting. No more of this once a week stuff! (hopefully). Thank you for all your support of my blog. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy posting. :)
